Judith Astles qualified as a chartered accountant in London where she worked on large corporate clients. Her time in practice coincided with the introduction of the Financial Services Act in 1986 and as a life assurance specialist, she was asked to write the chapter in a technical publication on the relevant regulatory framework and how to apply it in practice. This book was used as a guide by Executives tasked with implementing the Financial Services Act.
At SAGA she set up the financial framework and reporting for the newly formed insurance subsidiary. This subsidiary grew profitably and increased in size from 3 to 60 employees. It became the most profitable subsidiary in the SAGA Group.
Judith became the first management accountant at a large general insurer where she developed critical management reporting. When Zurich Insurance acquired the business she sat on the management boards of a number of their strategic business units as well as becoming their youngest Corporate and Accounting Planning Manager.
More recently Judith has set up the management-reporting framework for a number of small businesses and has helped save a company from insolvency by producing a financial plan that matched their marketing plan and conviction that the business was viable.
